A table at chen’s garden, 2026

A table at “Chen’s Garden” recreates a table setting from the Chinese restaurant my grandparents owned in north London in the 1980s. Using first-hand accounts and drawings from my mum and aunts, I used their recollections to reconstruct the set. The memories were imperfect and incomplete, sometimes even contradictory to one another. The accompanying video that played brings together personal footage from visiting the area (Edgware) as well as found archival images from the Facebook group: I grew up in Edgware HA8. Overlayed on the footage/images is some of the audio from the interviews with my family.
